Description
Large Framed Japanese Showa Era Silk Needlework Embroidery of a Traditional Landscape with Figures, This large-scale Japanese needlework embroidery from the Showa era depicts a traditional outdoor scene featuring seven figures. The work is executed with multi-colored silk or rayon threads on a cream-colored woven textile ground. The composition shows a group of women in intricately patterned kimonos and a male figure holding a large oil-paper parasol (wagasa). The background includes iconic landscape elements such as Mount Fuji, a torii gate, a pine tree, and a bamboo grove. In the foreground, figures are positioned near a low wooden bridge and floral arrangements. The entire central image is framed by an elaborate border of repeating octagonal medallions containing geometric and floral motifs. The needlework utilizes fine line work and varied stitching to replicate the detail of traditional ukiyo-e woodblock prints. The piece is housed in a gold-toned frame with a burgundy mat and glass glazing. Measures approximately 3 feet by 26 inches
