Description
A framed set of three First Day Cover souvenir sheets issued by the United Nations Postal Administration to commemorate the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. Frame measures 39 1/2 inches by 14 inches.The sheets feature artwork by Peter Max in a vibrant Neo-Fauve style with themes of rainbows, celestial bodies, and stylized figures. Each sheet bears the printed name peter max in a vertical blue oval on the left and right margins, along with a printed signature Peter MAX in the lower-left corner of the artwork. The set includes a sheet of stamps denominated in US cents (37c and 60c) with circular date stamp cancellations from the United Nations, New York, dated June 27, 2002; a sheet denominated in Euros (0.51 and 0.58) with circular date stamp cancellations from Vienna (Wien); and a sheet denominated in Swiss Francs (0.90 and 1.10) with circular date stamp cancellations from Geneva (Geneve). All three sheets are printed with the event title in English, French, and German. The reverse of the frame features a typed letter on United Nations Nations Unies letterhead dated 2 August 2002, signed by the Chief of the United Nations Postal Administration. The frame is also marked with a gold-tone adhesive label for Lamplight Gallery & Frames, Carmel, IN, and a silver-tone Tru Vue glass identification sticker.
